Gums Surgery

If you’ve developed gum disease severe enough to require surgery, your dentist may discuss some of these types of gum surgery as ways to treat the problem:

  • Pocket reduction surgery: Gums pockets are the dead spaces which harbour harmful bacteria and their products causing gum diseases .In this procedure, the calculus and bacteria under your gums is removed after reflecting your gums and extra pocket space is trimmed off. After thorough debridement the gums are placed back to their normal position and may be secured with stitches or special oral bandage.

  • Dental Crown lengthening: This is a cosmetic procedure in which excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth , to even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile.

  • Soft tissue graft surgery: Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Gum graft surgery will repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss. Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession. During gum graft surgery, your periodontist takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth to even your gum line and reduce sensitivity.

  • Regeneration: In this procedure, after flap surgery bone grafts, membranes, or tissue-stimulating proteins (or any combination of the three) are introduced into the defected portion to encourage your gum tissues to regenerate and fit snugly around the teeth again.
